His philanthropist spirit spread even further than his business tentacles to touch an amazing number of lives across the length and breadth of the country.
He needs no introduction. His corporate excellence and dynamic contributions to humanity are like medals around his neck, which better introduce him wherever the great name is mentioned.
He was born to Alhaji Shettima Yuguda Dibal and late Hajiya Zara Shettima Dibal on 19th October 1966 at Biu, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Alhaji Adamu Dibal started his early education in the non-western type educational system to prepare him for a life of purity and fear of God, which the Quranic Tsangaya system of education inculcates in children and wards of thoughtful Muslim parents. The young Adamu Dibal has consistently remained a person with a fear of Allah, who is keen to attribute his achievements and positions in the society to the will and benevolence of Almighty Allah.
Having broadened his intellectual horizon far enough for a young person of his age, the District Head of Sakwa and Kwajaffa who was the late Alhaji Shettima Yuguda Dibal, enrolled his son into Sakwa Central Primary School. Here he completed his elementary education in 1980 having obtained his First Leaving School Certificate.
He proceeded for his post primary education to the Borno Teacher’s College Maiduguri completing in 1986 with Teacher Grade II Certificate. His unrelenting quest for knowledge prompted him to arm himself in preparation for a greater tomorrow, thus he enrolled into University of Maiduguri to read Public Administration despite his exalted leadership position. His commitment to duty remains legendary. Being a man with unquenchable thirst for education, Alhaji Adamu Dibal obtained Diploma and Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri with flying colours. Dispite his busy and demanding schedules as Deputy Governor, he is currently studying for his masters Degree in the same institution.
Alhaji Adamu Dibal’s illustrious career did not start in the civil service. He may have realized early in life that he was a born entrepreneur. He trusted his belief, self-assuredly, and hung on to his dreams, venturing into the business world. His entrepreneurial spirit took him to Lagos, where the dreams of childhood ambition started to materialize. He started off as a clerk with a shipping company called Savol West Africa Limited. Having started the journey to reach the plateau of his dream, it was to those who are aware of his vast potentials only a matter of time before he carved a niche for himself. His entrepreneurial skills further sharpened, he became Shipping Manager, and keeping in mind the advice ingrained in him far back in far away home that hard work is the only honourable way to the top.
Apart from Savol West African Limited, Alhaji Adamu Dibal was also a staff of Ayo Afolabi Shipping Ventures Limited where his strong sense of commitment was made evident as a shipping supervisor.
Today, the tentacles of Alhaji Adamu Dibal’s investments include Shabash Ventures, Babima Nigeria Limited and Zarana Investments. He was Chairman and Director of not only these companies but also some other blue chip companies. In addition, he is the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Dibal Maritime Services Limited. A man of many parts his contributions to the general public are tremendous.
Alhaji Adamu Dibal has touched the lives of many through his humanitarian services. His philanthropic gestures cut across the geo-ethnic divide of the nation. Hundreds of indigenous students from his community and other parts of the state and country at large have benefited from his scholarship scheme. He is for this reason among the great Nigerians who served as Chief Launcher of appeal funds, helping to facilitate developmental projects through astute statesmanship and philanthropic gestures.
He does not waiver in his support for the under privileged and in recognition of his immense contributions to his community and nation in general, he was conferred with the title of SARDAUNAN BIU by his Royal Highness the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Umar Mustapha Aliyu.
Humble and God fearing, Alhaji Adamu Dibal is also a member of several Development Associations, such as Biu Emirate Development Association. An ardent sports fan besides being a member of many professional associations and a recipient of many awards and honours, his selfless service to his country transcends business and politics, as he is a financier of many football clubs in the country.
His reasons for supporting sports development are obvious; the creation of goodwill between states and different nations; a physical development of those in their prime, etc.
He was in politics for the purpose of national development and integration. He was active during the second Republic and contributed his quota in facilitating the Transition Programme initiated by General Abdul Salami Abubakar. It was jubilation galore around Biu when Alhaji Adamu Dibal joined the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). Everyone was aware of his exemplary conduct built over the years. They knew he would not rest on his oars. Even outside the Government before the lifting of ban on politics by the Military his effort to improve lives of member of his community was memorable.
The dignity with which he carried the responsibility thrust on him by greatness remain a source of pride to all sons and daughters of BIU, and of Borno State by extension.
From a business mogul with chains of business concerns to an accomplished politician from the boardroom of corporate excellence to the enviable number two office in the state, the SARDAUNAN BIU has live a life worth living; a life lived for the rest of us. He identifies with the developmental strategies of the number one citizen of the state, particularly his pathway to sustainable development for the rural communities.
A man of great international exposure, he has traveled extensively, having visited Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, France, the United Kingdom, United States, Portugal, Spain, China and the Netherlands etc.
Soccer apart, his hobbies are traveling counseling and reading. He is familiar with the works of great authors, from bibliography, autobiography and general interest to literature.
Happily married with children, Alhaji Adamu Dibal’s life is worth emulating. A devout muslim. he has impacted greatly on his community and the general public. His great life indeed has become a reference point to all and sundry, especially in his home state Borno.
